One Diet Does Not Fit All: Weight Loss Study

In January 2013, we started recruiting 600 participants for a 12-month weight loss study. We have just finished recruiting for this study and our classes for the final group are underway.

Eligible candidates for this study meet the following criteria:

  • Men and women in general good health
  • Under 50 years of age (women must be premenopausal)
  • Overweight
  • Interested in losing weight
  • Willing to be randomly assigned to follow either a Very Low-Fat or Very Low-Carbohydrate Diet for 12 months

Extensive support and guidance will be provided by a team of health professionals, and both diets will emphasize high nutritional quality. Participants must be willing and able to come to the Stanford campus for multiple clinic visits and 22 classes over the 12-month period.  The primary objective of this study is to determine if there is a genetic predisposition to being more successful in weight loss on a Low Fat vs. a Low Carb diet.

Recruitment is NOW CLOSED.

However, if you would like to participate in similar studies in the future, please complete the Online Screening Questionnaire using the link below.  We do not know when we might be running a similar study, so it may be some time before we reach out with additional opportunities.
